An international team of solar physicists has recently measured the global magnetic field of the outer most layer of the Sun's atmosphere, the solar corona, for the first time. The results have been published on Science and Science China Technological Sciences recently. Zihao Yang is the first author of both papers.
Welcome!
Welcome to Zihao Yang's homepage.
I am currently a 2nd-year Ph.D. student of School of Earth and Space Sciences (SESS) in Peking University (PKU) in China, working with Prof. Hui Tian now. I am also a Newkirk fellow of High Altitude Observatory (HAO) of National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in USA, working with Dr. Steven Tomczyk.
I major in space physics, with an emphasis on solar physics.
My interests focus on the spectroscopic analysis of the Sun and other stars. My PhD research will focus on diagnosing coronal magnetic field using spectral analysis. Spectrum is a significant tool in astronomy which can provides us a lot information on the physical properties of an astronomical object. I am interested in using spectroscopic methods to do diagnostics on the physical processes in the atmosphere of the Sun.
My name is written as 杨子浩 in Chinese.

Zihao is offered the Newkirk Fellowship from NCAR/HAO
On May 1, 2020, Zihao was offered the Newkirk Fellowship from High Altitude Observatory of the National Center for Atmospheric Research of U.S.A, and will begin visits to HAO within the next three years (click here for a brief introduction on HAO staff website).
UPDATE Due to the current pandemic and institutional travelling restriction, I will postpone my visit to HAO until year 2022.

Two Solar Tornadoes Observed with IRIS
We all hear about the word "tornadoes", but what about "solar tornadoes"? Are there any tornadoes on the Sun?
